The short version: your birth data lives on your iPhone and is never sent to us. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Tara Ghar is free, so there is no payment and no billing record either. One feature, Ask, can use the internet. On iPhones that run Apple's on-device model, Ask is answered by the phone and nothing is transmitted at all. On every other iPhone the question and a set of chart facts go to our endpoint and on to an AI provider. This page explains exactly what that means.

Everything you enter and almost everything the app produces. Your name, birth date, birth time, birth place, your saved people, your charts, dashas, panchang, match results, daily readings and your Ask conversation history are all stored only on your iPhone, in protected app storage. The astrology itself is computed on the device by our own engine, and works with no signal. None of this is uploaded, backed up by us, or visible to us in any way.
We run no servers that hold user data. There is no account, no sign-up, no user identifier, no advertising identifier and no analytics or advertising software in the app. We use no third party code libraries of any kind.
On iPhones that can run Apple's on-device model, Ask is answered by that model, on the phone. Nothing about the question or the chart is transmitted, to us or to anyone, and nothing in the rest of this page applies to those answers. There is nothing to consent to, so the app does not ask.
When the phone cannot answer, the question goes to our endpoint instead, and the app asks your permission before that happens for the first time. Two things are sent: the text of your question, and a set of chart facts such as planetary positions, house placements and dasha periods. The payload deliberately contains no name, no birth date, no birth time, no place, no coordinates, no device identifier and no account.
We want to be honest about a subtlety rather than claim more than we can. Precise chart facts are like a timestamped photograph of the sky: somebody holding them and an astronomy reference could work backwards to approximately when and roughly where a chart was cast. So we treat the transmitted chart facts as your personal data in pseudonymised form, and protect them accordingly, rather than calling them anonymous.
Because your request travels over the internet, our endpoint necessarily receives the network address of your device in order to answer it. We do not store your network address.
Tara Ghar is free and the online model is not, so there is a limit on how many questions one device may send in a day. To apply it, our endpoint computes a salted one way hash of your network address, and keeps that hash next to a counter for up to 24 hours before deleting it automatically. The hash cannot be turned back into an address by us. It is never joined to the content of any question. We use it only to apply the daily limit and to protect the service from abuse, and our legal basis for that is our legitimate interest in keeping a free service available and affordable.
We have switched off request logging on our endpoint. We keep no database and no log of questions or answers. Your conversation history exists only on your phone.
Two companies act as our processors, for the Ask feature only.
Under our agreement with Anthropic, Anthropic is not permitted to train its models on what you send or on the answers it produces.
Anthropic deletes the questions it receives and the answers it produces from its systems within 30 days. There is one exception, and we would rather state it than leave it out: if Anthropic's automated safety systems flag a request as breaching its usage policy, Anthropic may keep that request and answer for up to two years, and may keep its safety classification scores for up to seven years.
Anthropic processes requests on servers in the United States. There is no European processing option available for this service at present. Transfers of personal data outside the European Economic Area are covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, which form part of the Anthropic Data Processing Addendum.
Tara Ghar is free. There is no purchase, no subscription, no advertising and no donation, so we hold no payment details, no billing address and no transaction record about you, and there is nothing for Apple to tell us about you either.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b), for sending an online Ask question and returning its answer: you asked a question, and transmitting it is the only way to answer it. We rely on legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f), for the hashed daily limit described above, our interest being to keep a free service available and to prevent abuse. We carry out no other processing of your personal data.
Because your data is on your device and in nobody else's hands, you exercise most rights directly. Removing a person inside the app deletes their chart, readings and conversations. Settings has a Delete Everything control that erases all app data at once. Deleting the app removes its container entirely. There is no copy on any server, so there is nothing further for us to delete on your behalf.
You also have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the GDPR. Because we hold no accounts and store no questions, we will usually be unable to identify any data as yours; if that happens we will tell you so plainly and explain what we can and cannot do. You have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. For anything at all, write to im.chetanpotdar@gmail.com.
Tara Ghar is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe somebody under 16 has used Ask, please write to us and we will look into it.
Answers in Ask are written by an AI language model. You are talking to a computer program, not to a person, and the app says so on the screen. Answers may be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Do not rely on them without checking. Tara Ghar does not give medical, financial, legal or professional advice, and nothing it produces is a substitute for a qualified professional.
If this policy changes, the new version appears at this address with a new effective date. A change will never quietly weaken the promises above; anything material will be called out in the app.
